Mwabi Institute

Our truck was donated to the Mwabi Institute in Malawi in March 2008, in a container accompanied by much needed equipment and books, and is still going strong! It is being used for the continuing construction of additional classrooms at the school.

Robert first visited the village in March 2008 to see how the development of the school was progressing, and how we could best assist the project. He provided advice on the construction of the school whilst in Malawi, and a truck, donated by ourselves and filled with tools and equipment, followed in May 2008.

The school has been open since January 2009 and has nearly 200 students enrolled, with an exam pass rate of 91%.

The vision of the school is:

"to provide quality education for all members of the local community of Embangweni that is affordable and accessible to all.

For our children this will mean access to a quality teaching and learning environment from Nursery through to Secondary school. Our curriculum is compliant with the Malawi School Certificate of Education covering core subjects and we will also offer a range of additional and important subjects such as, Computer Skills and French.

For our community it will mean access to learning opportunities such as Carpentry, Joinery, Brick Laying, Computer Skills and use of the school library"

According to the UN's Human Development Index, Malawi, which was a British colony between 1891 and 1964, is one of the world's least developed countries, ranking 153 out of 169. For more information about Malawi, please click here

Sponsoring a child to attend the school costs only £120 a year- please click here to visit the Mwabi Institute website to find out more.

We continue to take a close interest in the progress of the school and assist where we can.
